Hello and welcome.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker, which means that I earned a master’s degree in social work and completed all post-graduate requirements in order to become qualified in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness, emotional and behavioral disturbances.
Looking back, I think I was always a social worker at heart. My professional career, however, started about 10 years ago in residential programs. I worked with high-need individuals and eventually transitioned to a residential re-entry program for women who had been impacted by the criminal justice system. That job ultimately led me to focus on attachment and trauma, as I could not help but wonder what would have happened if my clients had received support when they were still young.
Our past does not define us, but a clear understanding of how we became to be who we are is empowering. The first step towards healing involves a mindful awareness of our current struggles and how they relate to our past experiences. The second involves readiness and willingness to implement effective skills that will lead to long-lasting changes. The third step? Understanding that you do not need to do this alone. Trauma happens in the context of interpersonal relationships, and therefore, it is healed the same way.
It would be my honor to embark on this journey with you.
